Omaha Azure User Group Meeting – September 2020 – 3

The last meeting for the month of September 2020 took place Wednesday, September 30th, starting at 6:00 PM CT. It was an online event.

This time, rather than a 1 hour long session, we had a round of lightning talks.

Topic 1: Azure Front Door – a front…entry point for your application
An introduction to the Azure Front Door Service, along with a demo showcasing some of Front Door’s features.
Speaker: Scott Kellogg
Scott works as a Cloud Platform Architect at Kiewit helping shape their cloud strategy.  He has spent the last 10 years working in various IT roles and organizations around Omaha.  He started his IT career as a web application developer programming in Java, JavaScript, and C#, spent some time in the world of infrastructure, and has been working the last several years on building and architecting solutions in Azure.  His primary areas of interest in Azure are Platform as a Service (PaaS) technologies (such as App Service, Logic Apps, Function Apps, Front Door, Key Vault, and Service Bus) and leveraging Infrastructure as Code for automating the creation of those technologies.

Topic 2: Centralized Configuration with Azure App Configuration
This will be a quick overview of how to Securely centralize your application configurations, allow real-time updates without re-deployments, and remove configurations from your DevOps pipelines using Azure App Config.
Speaker: John Brewer
John Brewer, with CLOUDABLE LLC, is an independent consultant focusing on cloud architecture, application development, and DevOps. John has been involved in the application development field for over 25 years. Most recently, he has helped architect numerous solutions involving many products and solutions from Azure for clients.
His recent focus has been on microservices and distributed systems architecture utilizing Azure Service Fabric, Azure Functions, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Service Bus, and Event Grid. However, John also has working experience in many areas of Azure. John has also recently helped with the client’s full development process lifecycle utilizing Azure DevOps and ARM templates, Azure CLI, Azure Powershell, and Terraform for Infrastructure as Code to build, test, and deploy solutions.

Topic 3: Azure Log Analytics usage and alerts
In this talk, Karthik will cover- What is Log Analytics? How it is used? What is the Kusto Query language? How to set Log Analytics – Alerts, Action Group, Action Rules?
Speaker: Karthik Nallajalla
Karthik Nallajalla began his career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska as a Software Developer in 2010. Throughout the years, he has specialized in developing the Enterprise Applications using Microsoft products and technologies primarily using .Net. Currently, enhancing skills in Azure and Salesforce technologies to expand its utilization in the organization. Before joining Blue Cross, Karthik was a SharePoint consultant for 3 years working in a technical IT development role, primarily developing SharePoint and .NET related projects. He also holds a Masters’s degree in Computer and Information Sciences from the University of South Alabama.

Topic 4: Unleash the power of Azure Data factory
In this session, we will go through an overview of Azure Data Factory and how it works. We will also understand ADF components and how can we use ADF to integrate data silos.
Speaker: Ashish Agrawal
Ashish Agrawal is currently an Enterprise Architect leading multiple Data and Cloud initiatives at Kraft Heinz Company for Global IT Architecture and Strategy team. He has played technology leadership roles for large, complex, cross-functional, and multi-vendor teams for the last two decades.

Topic 5: Azure Updates from Microsoft Ignite
In this talk, Vaibhav will cover the most notable Azure updates from the recently concluded Microsoft Ignite Conference (Sept 22-24)
